"I just booked a lodge in the middle of Baja. What now?"
We look forward to having you at The Black Bass Lodge!
The following provides important information about the Lodge and what to expect during your stay
Getting there:
Most travelers either drive from the border to Punta Abreojos (571 miles) in their own car, or fly to Loreto and drive up in a rental from there (220 miles). There is no easy way to get there, but worth it when you arrive. You should be experienced in Baja Travel before making the journey. If not, we suggest you contact us about Guided Trips.
Download WhatsApp before you go to start to communicate with the staff about arrival times. That way they can make sure to have some refreshments ready for you after your journey.
The Black Bass Lodge is located about 1.5 miles south of town. It is in an area called "La Baliza" the beacon or lighthouse. If it is your first time, arrive in the daylight hours. There are no road signs in La Baliza. So at nighttime, it is really difficult to differentiate between the dirt paths. (Watch this video for step by step instructions on how to find The Black Bass Lodge from the Punta Abreojos turn off)
What to expect when you arrive:
Upon arrival you will meet the staff and get a tour of the Lodge. Please understand we are completely off the grid and have to bring in our own water, so please conserve.
Food is included at the lodge. You will have fresh water in dispensers in the kitchen and bathrooms, but additional beverages will cost additional. We will have beer, wine, and cocktails available by request. We have a store for T-shirts and misc items for your purchase.
The rooms below are for sleeping and relaxing. Please no food or beverages other than water in the bedrooms. Flies and ants are a real problem and will infiltrate the rooms if anything other than water is consumed.
Please ask the staff if there is anything you need. If you need us to arrange fishing or other adventures, please let us know ahead of time.
It is also a good idea to let us know about food allergies or preferences.
The chef will usually make a traditional Mexican breakfast around 8-9AM. Coffee, bread, cheese, and fruit will be available early for the early risers 7 am.
Lunch is more casual and usually to go small burritos or sandwiches.
Dinner is the most involved meal of the day and will be one or more courses. Please let the staff know what would be your preferred time for dinner.
Snacks are available but the chef is not on call per say. If you have younger kids, please come equipped with snacks or have our staff prepare something ahead of time. Although we are happy to accommodate, we cannot drop the other lodge work and prep that needs to be done to make food all day.
The lodge can provide rides to the fishing boats in town. Other places will incur a charge if outside of the local area.
Please note our staff only speaks Spanish. If you need an English speaking concierge, please let us know ahead of time so we can arrange for additional fee.
Power is limited. Hair dryers, or high energy usage appliances please consult staff before using.
Please remember to conserve water. Limit time in showers.
If staying for more than 3 days, we will clean the rooms every 3rd day and bathrooms every day. Please let us know if there is a problem with anything. If the staff does not know that something is not working (it happens a lot off the grid) then we cannot fix it.
Also remember that we are in nature, a desert environment with lots of hazards, please be aware and educate not just the kids but anyone who is not experienced in the potential dangers in Baja. This means snakes, scorpions, rip tides, sun exposure, sting rays, and even cars on the road that cannot see so good in the dirt.
We want you to have an amazing time in Punta Abreojos. Being safe is the first step.
**Also please remember the staff really works hard, they very much appreciate tips if you are so inclined. Give us your feedback, we really appreciate it.
